MADE IN U.S.A.

PML designs, manufactures and sells specialty automotive products. They have been delivering quality products since 1986.

20 DEGREES LOWER TRANSMISSION TEMPS – PML transmission pans use all the tricks available to remove heat from your transmission fluid. They are designed with the obvious outer ribbing that transfers the heat from the pan into the moving air stream below the vehicle… but they didn’t stop there!  PML designed HUGE internal ribs (HEAT SYNCS) that absorb the heat from the fluid to the pan… the pan then transfers that to the outer ribbing. All these added ribs internal and external not only aid in dropping trans temps by as much as 20 degrees, they also make in inherently strong and durable.

DRAIN FLUID WITHOUT REMOVING TRANSMISSION PAN – No more dropping pans for a fluid check/change.  Now you can change fluid without the mess, simply by removing the magnetic drain plug. What makes this special is that when you pull the plug, if there is no metal shavings on the plug, you are likely only going to need a fluid change and not always going to need to change filters.  We recommend changing filters every other fluid change.

PML 10304 – APPLICATION – This deep PML oil pan for Dodge RFE transmissions is designed to replace the stock pan on these vehicles:

  • Ram 2500 & 3500, 2WD and 4WD, with 6.7 liter diesel engine with an RFE transmission, 2007½ and newer
  • Ram 1500 with Hemi engine, 2002 – 2005
  • Ram 1500 with 4.7 V8 engine, 2002 to 2011, check clearance on 2012 to 2014
  • 2WD Dakota with 4.7 V8 engine, 2000 – 2004
  • 2WD Durango with 4.7 V8 engine, 2000 – 2003
  • Jeep Grand Cherokee with 4.7 V8 engine, 1999 – 2004
  • Jeep Liberty CRD, 2005 and 2006 (check skid plate and see installations below)
  • Jeep Wrangler 2010 and 2011 2.8 Diesel (check skid plate)

Always check your vehicle to verify configuration and clearance.

2013 and newer trucks: Cooling lines (tubes) run close to the stock transmission pan on many models starting in 2013. This pan has cleared the cooling lines on all installations. It is a tight fit. See Installations section for notes and pictures.

Ram Trucks with Aisin Transmission: for 2007 to 2012, see the PML Aisin AS68RC transmission pan and for 2013 and newer, see PML Aisin AS69RC transmission pan

Skid Plates: If you have a skid plate, you may need to move it downwards away from the transmission pan. Please see Installations for an example from a customer. Some Jeeps and a few Dodge vehicles have skid plates that limit clearance.

Trucks and SUVs with exhaust or frame members below the stock pan, such as 2006 and new Hemis, see a PML RFE pan with a step.

Some vehicles, like 2005 to 2013 Grand Cherokees, have the exhaust or frame near or under the stock pan. There may seem to be clearance for a PML pan, but there is not enough space. It has been tried. Removing fins and part of the pan did not help.

PML made this pan for Ram and Dakota trucks and Jeep SUVs with Chrysler/Dodge 4, 5 and 6 speed transmissions: 68RFE, 66RFE, 65RFE, 5–45RFE, 45RFE

Benefits

  • Drain and magnetic drain plug included
  • Extra Capacity
  • Heavy duty sand cast aluminum construction
  • Finned on the bottom for heat dissipation
  • Machined flat, large sealing surface for a leak free seal
  • Clears cooling lines on 2013 and newer Ram trucks

Once installed, the bottom of this pan is not parallel to the ground. The drain plug is on the side closest to the ground so the pan will drain really well. Other PML pans for the Dodge RFE transmission are parallel to the ground once installed.

PML 10304 – INSTALLATIONS

This PML Dodge transmission pan has been installed on a variety of trucks and SUVs. Our thanks to those who gave us pictures and feedback.

2014 Ram 2500 4×4

CJC Offroad installed this PML transmission pan on theirr 2014 Ram 2500 4×4 6.7 diesel. They were concerned about the transmission fluid cooling lines on the passenger side, but the lines do not contact the PML pan. Watch the video to see the installation:

As shown in the video, pushing the lines 1/8 to 1/4 an inch out makes the installation easier so that RTV did not get all over the flange surfaces. You must be very careful as these tubes are expensive and you do not want to break the seals on either end.

Andrew Lowe installed this pan on his 2014 Project Bloodhound Ram 2500 4×4 6.7 Turbo Diesel. He also installed PML rear differential cover, part number 10361 and PML front cover, part number 11136. The truck has limited clearance for a larger transmission pan. To get the PML pan to fit, he slightly bent the cooler lines 1/4 inch.

The images below show the PML pan installed, the transmission pan cooler lines, and the truck. Andrew powder coated the pan and both differential covers a custom red.

2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4.7 Aftermarket Exhaust

Joe has aftermarket Hurricane Headers witha custom collector and Y–join. The cross member and long arm kit are from Clayton’s Offroad. When Joe installed the PML pan, he had to beat in the exhaust a bit and heat wrapped it. The heat wrap is just touching the pan, which is fine with Joe as it should not cause any trouble.

PML 11078 – APPLICATION

Configurations vary. Always check your vehicle to verify transmission and clearance. This pan is larger than the stock pan. Although this transmission pan has the same capacity as the stock pan, the thick walls and fins on the bottom make it larger than stock.

Here are some examples of vehicles that have installed this pan:

  • Dodge Trucks and SUVs:
  • Dakota with 4.7 V8, 4WD, 2000 – 2004
  • Dakota with 3.7 V6, 2004
  • Dakota with 4.7 V8, 2005 – 2010
  • Durango with 4.7 V8, 4WD, 2000 – 2003
  • Durango with 5.7 V8, 2004 – 2009
  • Ram 1500 with Hemi, 2006 to 2016, 4, 5 or 6 speed transmission
  • Ram 2500 with Hemi, 2003 to 2016, 4, 5 or 6 speed transmission
  • Ram 3500 with Hemi, 2003 to 2016, 4, 5 or 6 speed transmission
  • Ram Trucks with Cummins Diesel with this transmission

This transmission pan clears the damper on 2012 Ram 2500 with the 66RFE (see Installations).

Jeep owners: Jeeps with these transmissions most likely do not have enough clearance for a larger transmission pan:

  • On most 2005 to 2010 4.7 or 5.7 Grand Cherokee WK and Commander XK, the exhaust is too close on the passenger side, front corner. The PML pan does not have the same shape in that one corner. The exhaust is difficult to re-route.
  • On most 2011 to 2013 Grand Cherokee WK2 5.7, the front frame cross member and skid plate are close to the stock transmission pan and there is no extra space for a larger aftermarket pan.
  • On a 2002 Liberty 3.7 V6, the exhaust is probably too close on the passenger side, front corner.

Skid plates: If you have skid plates, check available space as this pan is larger stock

Diesel Engine trucks and SUVs: See also PML Chrysler, Dodge RFE deep transmission pans, part numbers 10304 and 11039.

2012 Dodge Ram 1500 with 65RFE Transmission

Keith at Forest City Diesel in Missouri installed this transmission pan on a 2012 Dodge Ram 1500 Sport Crew Cab. He used a a TRANSTAR fiber gasket P/N 72300F. He report that the install was quick and simple. He torqued the pan bolts to 85 inch pounds and the drain to 20 foot pounds. He re-torqued the pan bolts after the trans went through a heat cycle, but they were fine. Keith summarized his installation with the comment concluded his comments with “Great pan!”

Larry installed this PML transmission pan on his 2012 Dodge Ram 2500 with the 66RFE transmissions. His dealer told him the cylinder on the crossover pipe is a vibration damper to reduce noise. Larry opted to leave the damper in place since this low profile pan provided clearance.

PML 11079 – APPLICATIONS

Configurations vary so always check your vehicle to verify transmission and clearance.

2014 and newer diesel engine trucks: Ram routes cooler lines under the stock pan on these trucks. See PML part number 10304, RFE deep pan.

Jeep owners: Check carefully. These Jeep vehicles most likely have this transmission do not have enough clearance for a larger transmission pan:

  • On most 2005 to 2010 4.7 or 5.7 Grand Cherokee WK and Commander XK, the exhaust is too close on the passenger side, front corner. The exhaust is difficult to re-route. A 2005 4.7 Grand Cherokee 4×4 and a 2007 Commander 4.7 4×4 could not install this pan. See the picture of an attempted installation below.
  • On most 2011 to 2013 Grand Cherokee WK2 5.7, the front frame cross member and skid plate are close to the stock transmission pan and there is no extra space to maneuver a larger aftermarket pan into place.
  • On a 2002 Liberty 3.7 V6, the exhaust is probably too close on the passenger side, front corner.

2005 to 2010 Jeep Exhaust

Exhaust routing may not allow for these PML pans to be installed. Exhaust is routed underneath stock pan on the passenger side. See first picture. In second picture, the exhaust contacts PML pan.

Exhaust and stock pan   Exhaust in the way of larger pan

Patrick could not get this PML extra capacity pan installed on his 2005 Grand Cherokee 4.7L 4WD 545RFE. This pan is too tall for his exhaust routing on the passenger side. His exhaust shop said there are too many bends and connections in that area to modify the exhaust routing.

PML Part Number 11079, the stock capacity pan, was installed on a 2006 Grand Cherokee 4.0L but we do not know if the exhaust routing is the same as this 2005.

PML 11079 – PRODUCT INFORMATION

PML 11161 – APPLICATIONS –

PML designed this deep transmission oil pan to replace the stock pan on many configurations of these vehicles with a Chrysler Dodge 45RFE, 545RFe, 65RFE, 66RFE, and 68RFE: :

  • Ram 2500 and 3500, 2WD and 4WD, with 6.7 liter diesel engine, 2007 1/2 and newer
  • Ram 1500 with Hemi engine, 2002 to 2005
  • Ram 1500 with 4.7 V8 engine, 2002 to 2011, check clearance on 2012 to 2014
  • 2WD Dakota with 4.7 V8 engine, 2000 to 2004
  • 2WD Durango with 4.7 V8 engine, 2000 to 2003
  • Jeep Grand Cherokee with 4.7 V8 engine, 1999 to 2004
  • Jeep Liberty CRD, 2005 and 2006 (check skid plate and see installations below)
  • Jeep Wrangler 2010 and 2011 2.8 Diesel (check skid plate)

Always check your vehicle to verify configuration and clearance.. This pan will not work on 8 or 9 speed or Aisin transmissions.

Ram Trucks with Aisin Transmission: see PML Aisin AS68RC and AS69RC transmission pans.

Skid Plates: If you have a skid plate, you may need to move it downwards away from the transmission pan. Some Jeeps and a few Dodge vehicles have skid plates that limit clearance.

Trucks and SUVs with exhaust or frame members below the stock pan: for example, many Hemi engine vehicles have the exhaust under the stock pan and will need PML 2 quart over or stock capacity pan.

Some vehicles, like 2005 to 2013 Grand Cherokees, have the exhaust or frame near or under the stock pan. There may seem to be clearance for a PML pan, but there is not enough space. It has been tried. Removing fins and part of the pan did not help.

PML 11161 – SPECIFICATIONS –

Information is for reference only. Installer is responsible for installation, function and fitment.

Included with PML Pan

Included with PML 68RFE, 66RFE, 545RFE, 44RFE deep pan  Click on image to view larger.
Pan ships with new mounting bolts and a magnetic drain plug. If the pan is drilled and tapped for a 1/8 NPT, a plug is included.

Filter Information

There are several stock pans and filters for the 68RFE, 66RFE, 65RFE, 545RFE, 45RFE Chrysler/Dodge transmissions. This pan works with any OEM or compatible filter.

The filter bolts on to the valve body. No filter support or extension is needed. PML designs pans and covers to work with stock parts without the need for additional modifications or complications. The fluid will be at the same level with a stock pan as with the PML pan. The filter will pick up from the same place. Installer must verify filter function and fitment with PML pan.

Inside of PML Transmission Pan

Baffles on the inside of the pan keep the oil near the pickup tube, act as heat sinks to help with cooling, and reduce sloshing.

Drain and Temperature Sensor Port on Driver Side

This is the driver or left side of the transmission pan:
PML 68RFE pan, drain hole Click on image to view larger.

The larger hole is the drain hole. A magnetic drain plug is included.

The smaller hole is drill and tapped for a 1/8 NPT temperature sending unit. A plug for the hole is included.

Passenger Side

This is the passenger or right side of this PML transmission pan:
PML 68RFE pan, passenger or left side Click on image to view larger.

The passenger front corner steps down to clear cooling tubes on some 2013 and newer diesel trucks.

Gasket Information

For a gasket, PML recommends an inexpensive cork or cork composite type gasket or the silicon gasket maker. Some Dodge vehicles use the Mopar silicon gasket maker, which comes in a tube, with the stock pan. This works fine with a PML pan.

An example of a cork gasket is Transmaxx 72300, shown below.

Filter Information

There are two different stock pans and two different filters for this Chrysler/Dodge transmission.

These are sometimes called the “4WD” filter and pan although they are used on 2WD and 4WD vehicles. The filter has a long pick up long tube in the middle.

These are sometimes called the “2WD” filter and pan. Seen more commonly on 2006 and older trucks. The pick up tube is short and located close to the end of the filter.

For PML part numbers 10304 and 11039, you can use either filter. For PML part numbers 11078 and 11079, you must use the “4WD” filter.

PML does not include a filter with the pan. Thanks to Eric who provided part numbers for filters that will work with all PML Dodge RFE pans:

  • OEM: 5013470AB
  • Fleetguard: TF15072
  • FRAM: FT1223
  • WIX: 58843 (kit)

The filter bolts on to the valve body. No filter support or extension is needed. The fluid will be at the same level with a stock pan as with the PML pan. The filter will pick up from the same place. PML designs pans and covers to work with stock parts without the need for additional modifications or complications.

It is the responsibility of the installer to verify filter and fitment.

Baffles

Image shows the inside of this transmission pan.

The pan features internal baffles. The baffles direct oil to the filter pick up, reduce sloshing, and provide additional surface area for cooling.

Optional Temperature Sending Unit Machining

Optionally, this pan can be machined for a temperature sending unit. There is boss on the driver side of the pan for this.

If you would like PML to drill and tap hole, the machining charge is per hole. A plug for the hole is included.

The standard size is 1/8 NPT. Call or email if you need a different size.
